SWE Science - Applications Open!

SWE Science Saturdays and SWE Science Scholars are a series of activities hosted once every month that teach engineering ideas and principles to 4th and 5th grade students and 6th - 8th grade students. The students work in groups to complete different hands-on projects using their creativity and knowledge. Some examples of previous activities include creating catapults and building “earthquake-proof” structures out of classroom materials such as popsicle sticks, rubber bands, straws, and chopsticks.
Thank you for participating in our February events. Registration for March is now open and will continue until all spaces are filled on a first come, first-serve basis, so register early to secure your spot.
Our members lead two hour hands-on engineering lessons and challenges on a Saturday once a month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration is conducted on a monthly basis and registration for the upcoming SWE Science event opens a few days after the preceding event. Spaces are given to those who register on a first come first serve basis!
Save the date! SWE Science Saturdays & Scholars will be held monthly this Spring 2020 semester on 2/1, 3/7, 4/4, and 5/2. Registration will be conducted on a monthly basis and typically opens two weeks before the next SWE Science event.
Can't make it to this event? We invite any interested parents and teachers to sign up for our mailing list to stay updated on future SWE Science programs.

What is SWE Science?
SWE Science is a monthly, hands-on engineering experience held from 10AM to 12 PM Saturday mornings. During these sessions, students will engage in collaborative engineering challenges, designed to allow students to not only practice foundational STEM principles but also to develop their intellectual curiosities and creativity in an interactive--but most importantly, fun setting! Previous activities have included cardboard vehicles, flotation devices, and plastic parachutes. Additionally, our team of Berkeley engineering students will help these future engineers learn about a variety STEM careers, including those lesser-known ones in order to cater to every students particular interests.
Who can participate?
SWE Science is divided into two sections: SWE Science Saturdays for 4th-5th grade and SWE Science Scholars for 6th-8th grade students. We welcome students of all genders and backgrounds to attend.
When is the next SWE Science?
SWE Science will take place on Saturday morning on 2/1, 3/7, 4/4, and 5/2 from 10AM – 12PM.
Where is SWE Science held?
At Soda Hall on the UC Berkeley campus. (Specific room numbers will be announced in registration confirmation emails.)
How do I sign up?
